Abstract

This work opens a discussion about the social disciplines and their capabilities to meet the present social emergencies. The article begins by analyzing the issues raised in various academic meetings [especially sociology and scientific research methodology conferences, etc.] between 2009 and 2011 in Latin America. Finally, the paper makes an assessment of the capacity of the disciplines and fields of study to approach the treatment of current social problems and of the social sciences' challenges in Latin America
